The Role:

 

This position may require working rotating shifts, rotating on-call schedules, including weekends and holidays.

Day to Day:

 

  • Maintains, repairs, replaces and adds to the water distribution and transmission system pipes, valves, hydrants, laterals and various other appurtenances.
  • Changes out meters and performs routine valve and hydrant maintenance.
  • Operates a backhoe or other equipment to excavate damaged water and sewer lines if required.
  • Performs water main shutdowns and notifies affected customers when water outages are necessary to perform system work.
  • Performs water line repair tapping and valve installation; tests water lines and refills trenches; repairs streets and sidewalks damaged during excavation.
  • Restores excavated landscaped areas to prior existing conditions.
  • Observes and monitors data to determine compliance with prescribed operating and safety standards.
  • Complies with all OSHA safety standards including Confined Space Entry, Trenching and Shoring, and Traffic Barricade set up.
  • Communicates with citizens, contractors, and staff members in a professional and cordial manner.
  • Responds to public inquiries and investigates public complaints associated with the water Distribution system.
  • Performs routine tasks with hand tools, (shovels, rakes, wrenches, trowels, etc.).
  • Performs light maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Works on emergency repairs and service calls, on call, rotating schedule includes weekends
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Come on your first day with:

 

  • Using and maintaining tools and equipment to perform maintenance and repair work.
  • Determine processing requirements; sample the influent and effluent at various stages of processing and identify problems and ensure proper and efficient operation of the treatment plant.
  • Making routine operating adjustments and repairs to equipment.
  • Following safe work practices, and verbal and written instructions.
  • Inspecting and monitoring machinery and equipment to verify compliance with prescribed operating conditions and safety standards,
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with co-workers.
  • Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Trustworthy; strong personal integrity

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed on location at Utility water plants with moderate physical requirements, and strength sufficient to lift and move items weighing up to fifty pounds; may be exposed to safety hazards including extreme weather conditions i.e. excessive heat and cold, dangerous gases, dangerous chemicals, biological hazards, confined spaces and dangerous tools and equipment.

 

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid Arizona State Driver's license is required.  Must possess a Grade I Operator Certification from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality within the discipline of Water within one year of hire.

Base salary range: This position offers a starting hourly rate of $20.07 (annualized to $41,745), with the potential for higher compensation depending on qualifications.
