The Role:

 

This role works collaboratively with the Engineering organization, as well as other organizations internal and external to NW Natural to enable successful delivery of assigned projects.  This role will serve as a subject matter expert on PMO processes, tools, and deliverables to support other Engineering resources operating in a project management capacity. This role will also actively participate in identifying, assessing, and implementing process improvements within the PMO.

Day to Day:

 

  • Prepare and submit PMO required documentation throughout the project lifecycle process.
  • Lead all aspects of the project building process.  Oversee internal staff and external consulting engineers throughout the design and construction process from conceptual design to as-built drawings.  Ensure relevant code compliance. Coordinate the building permit application process and required building department inspections.  Oversee transmittals, submittals and request for information (RFI) processes and tracking.  Ensure proper stakeholder involvement in the review of drawings and technical specifications.  Assure compliance with and coordinate inspections as required by NWN Field Operations Manual (FOM)
  • Develop, manage, and update the project actual and forecast cost.  Manage cost performance to both forecast and budget and conduct analyses to identify and remediate variances as needed.  Conduct monthly and ad hoc analyses as requested or required by NW Natural’s PM processes.  As project costs change, assess, document, and communicate any changes in accordance with PMO change management practices.
  • Develop project schedules, including forecasts for material supply and personnel.  Routinely review and update projects schedules.  As schedules change, assess, document, and communicate changes in accordance with PMO change management practices.
  • Identify, procure and manage project-related human resources.  Provide all team members with clear guidance regarding tasks and deadlines.  Work with project team members and resource managers to address and resolve any performance concerns.  If external vendors, contractors, or resources are engaged on the project, manage vendor schedules, deliverables, and cost according to their respective SOWs.  Integrate vendor project information into the project plan.  Ensure adequate touchpoints and communications exist between NW Natural and vendor project team members, sponsors, steering committees, and stakeholders.  
  • Develop project communications plan, including meetings; status reports, monthly portfolio reviews, and other communications as needed.  Schedule and lead routine and special project team meetings.  Present project status report at routine monthly executive/project sponsor meetings.  Prepare and submit routine project status reports.  Coordinate change management efforts.  
  • Lead the identification, collection, and management of project risks by working with the project team and stakeholders.  Define mitigation plans for all assigned risks.  Manage issues through to completion.  Communicate risks and issues according to NW Natural’s defined PM processes.

Day to Day (Continued):

 

  • If external vendors, contractors, or resources are engaged on the project, assist purchasing with the development of request for proposal (RFP) scope documents for outside vendors.  Coordinate the issuance of RFPs with NWN procurement team.  Lead the review and evaluation of contractor responses and offers for services and materials.  Key contributor in the negotiations of contractor and supplier agreements.  Work with NWN project engineer for the timely entry of purchase requisitions.  Identify and document risks and issues in a timely manner in Company project management software (Planview).  Negotiate, and obtain approval as required for change orders.  Track, review and advise NWN project engineer on payment of vendor invoices 
  • Document, track and organize all relevant project information in Company project management tools (Planview, Sharepoint).  Projects will be subject to both internal and external review, audit, data requests and other requests for information.  Careful organization of project documentation, schedules, change logs, risk registers, purchase orders, invoices, transmittals and other project documents will be required to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Complete other project duties as assigned.
  • Provide information, guidance and support to project engineers regarding PMO processes, tools, and deliverables
  • Collaborate with other PMO resources to identify, evaluate, and execute improvements to the PMO’s processes, tools, and deliverables to help the PMO realize it’s long term vision

  • Demonstrated success applying project management concepts and techniques across multiple, simultaneous projects
  • Strong communication and presentation skills across all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated analytical skills, including problem solving and critical thinking, with attention to detail Ability to facilitate meetings and manage difficult conversations with tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to gain and maintain credibility at all levels of the organization Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline preferred
  • PMI or equivalent certification preferred 3+ years of engineering experience
  • 5+ years of project management experience.

 

PM3:

  • In addition to PM2 requirements,
  • Thorough knowledge of project and program management theories, models, and techniques
  • Demonstrated success applying project management concepts and techniques across large, mission-critical projects/programs
  • Master’s degree in an engineering discipline preferred PMI or equivalent certification preferred
  • 7+ years of progressive project management leadership experience.

Base salary range: $90,350.00 - $128,750.00 (Level 2) or $101,200.00 - $144,200.00 per year (Level 3), depending on qualifications

Annual Target Incentive: Level 2, 9.5% target

                                           Level 3, 12.0% target

Targets are calculated using eligible earnings during plan year participation. Payout, if earned, is based on company and individual performance for each plan year and may range from 0% – 200% of target. Targets are subject to change in subsequent plan years. Must be employed by September 30 in order to receive any prorated payout.
