Business Systems Manager 

Non-Union Position

The Role:

 

This position provides management duties for a team of business analysts responsible for the end user support, change management, training, and advancement of functionality of essential integrated systems used by numerous Operations teams and in alignment with other business systems used by NW Natural.  Ensures the focus on systems and processes are designed, integrated, and configured to meet current and future business needs with insights to the process maturity and strategic direction as outlined by Executive and Director goals and objectives as well as managers and supervisors of operations business units. 

Works with assigned committee directives, business partners, and other influencing initiatives to identify necessary processes, technical needs, and documentation to support process and application configuration requirements. 

Coordinate and manage assigned team personnel to achieve business goals, objectives, and opportunities.  Guide and develop Business Systems team skills and foster individual growth.

Day to Day:

 

  • Focus on relationships with operations teams and their use of technical systems to achieve process objectives with particular focus on Asset Management, Compliance Systems, Work Management, and associated integrations to other departments and systems: 

            - Supply Chain integration to support critical information and inventory to operations

            - Finance integration in support of asset creation, definitions, and reporting

            - Reporting and Analytics in support of enterprise needs

            - Engineering integration in support of work necessary for the addition and maintenance of plant and project support for the addition of critical systems growth

            - Resource Management in support of planning and scheduling to meet organization targets for work completion of capital and O&M efforts

  • Ensure that solution design decisions support end-to-end asset lifecycle management and are aligned to the target framework in support of Asset Strategy & Risk Management, Asset Governance, and Portfolio Optimization.
  • The ability to describe the key aspects related to current and future operational processes, assure that solution design decisions achieve the expected business values and that change impacts are clearly identified 

            - Asset Data Registration and Management and for Compatible Units Management for estimating or standard (portfolio) designs.

            - Linear Asset Management, including the synchronization between SAP and GIS.

            - Identification and treatment of added and removed assets as they relate to our financial asset management programs.

            - The entire life cycle related to: Work Order Management, including Work Initiation, Work Preparation, Work Design, Work Planning, Work and Scheduling and Assignment, and Work Closure.

            - The inventory and other supply chain elements are required for inspection, maintenance, installation, or removal of assets.

            - Tracking and Traceability including field data collection as required to meet code requirements.

            - All other operations Assets including above-ground Plant, Tools and Equipment, and compliance-based assets such as Valves, Regulators, Meters, and Fleet Management.

  • Support project leadership in the scope management decision-making process, identification of Organizational Change Management impacts, and identification of process integrations to achieve NWN business objectives. 
  • Provide information, support, and recommendations to NWN leadership as needed.
  • Participate and guide NWN strategic directions in support of Executive, Directors, and Committees key objectives.
  • Engage with the Business Systems management team to further support the success and future of the team including critical business and user support functions, application production readiness, and communications.
  • Provide team leadership, guidance, coaching, and development.

Come on your first day with:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in business or an equivalent combination of education and technical experience resulting in general systems skills.
  • Preference for supervisory/managerial experience with proven ability in team leadership.
  • Strong project management skills and abilities.
  • Requires advanced technical knowledge in information systems with a minimum of 6 -10 years of experience.
  • Strategic understanding of utility objectives that are supported within the EAM, SCM and FICO modules.  This may include integration of Time and Attendance and Operator Skills modules within other platforms as appropriate.
  • Advanced oral, written, and presentation skills, including the ability to explain complex technological concepts to both a non-technical audience as well as advanced technology provisioners.
  • Ability to interface with end users to understand, capture and translate business requirements to accurately document, develop and implement required reporting.
  • Advanced technical experience and knowledge of SAP as well as other common platforms used in the utilities industry such as Mobile Workforce Management Systems and Compliance Applications.
  • Proven ability to organize/prioritize personal and team workload effectively and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Expertise in understanding advanced utility business processes including asset management, work order processing, supply chain and cost accounting.
  • Must have the ability to take initiative and be assertive in a professional environment.
  • Proven ability to function in a highly cohesive team environment to achieve project goals and to act independently to accomplish responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact with employees at all organizational levels.  
  • Requires advanced knowledge and experience in operations business processes including an understanding of the operations work order processes and strong knowledge of Resource Management Center process.
  • High level of ability in providing communications and professional interactions with all levels of personnel from entry to expert and both internal as well as external including consultants, system implementors; service providers, solution provisioners and industry experts.
  • May require travel.
  • Possess/maintain a valid Oregon/Washington driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.

Base salary range: $97,750.00 - $139,300.00 per year, depending on qualifications

Annual Target Incentive: Grade 22, 12% target
Targets are calculated using eligible earnings during plan year participation. Payout, if earned, is based on company and individual performance for each plan year and may range from 0% – 200% of target. Targets are subject to change in subsequent plan years. Must be employed by September 30 in order to receive any prorated payout.
