Gas Operations Superintendent 

Non-Union Position

The Role:


Directs and supervises the operation, maintenance, and engineering design of the company’s LNG storage facility in Portland, Oregon to assure the safe, reliable, and cost-effective movement of inventory into and out of storage.

Day to Day:


  • Supervises, directs, motivates, and evaluates field operations personnel in the performance of their assigned tasks and job functions.
  • Provides for maintenance program execution, documentation, and process improvement, directs preventive maintenance programs, and maintains availability to supervise repairs at any time.
  • Maintains a positive public image of the Company and the LNG storage plant through information, programs, facility tours, and community involvement. Responds to a variety of inquiries/concerns initiated by customers, Company personnel, or the general public; resolves problems by coordinating necessary resources.
  • Promotes, implements, and monitors safe work practices and conducts safety meetings for appropriate staff.
  • Responds to and evaluates emergency situations, analyzes required action and directs appropriate response; maintains proper emergency response procedure.
  • Builds and maintains favorable working relationships with other utilities, governmental agencies, other gas storage plants, equipment manufacturers, and related professional organizations.
  • Develops, trains, and mentors individual and team members with documentation and ongoing performance feedback, recognizes accomplishments, and provides cross-training opportunities.
  • Develops staffing plans; participates in and leads employee selection processes, creates and maintains the rotating shiftwork schedule. Participates in budget preparation, analyzes costs/benefits; continuously evaluates cost reduction and revenue enhancement opportunities.
  • Translates corporate vision and strategy into team goals and priorities; measures and evaluates results.
  • Manages, facilitates, and evaluates team development, work processes, and technical expertise.
  • Supports the Company’s commitment to a culture of safe work practices.
  • Participate as a subject matter expert for external audit preparation, and data gathering in order to demonstrate compliance. 
  • Adheres to and promotes the philosophies and directives of the Collective Bargaining Unit.
  • Demonstrates appropriate leadership and decision-making behaviors; maintains personal skill development, technical plant process knowledge, and supervisory operator qualifications.
  • Committed to coaching and developing employees. Creates and maintains a positive team environment at the facility.
  • Provides backup leadership and project expertise at other storage plants as necessary. Contributes to team leadership dynamic across Storage Operations department. 

Come on your first day with:


  • Minimum 7 years of gas plant operations experience or equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a leadership role. Prior supervisory or lead experience is required.
  • Proficient understanding of Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Word/Excel/Teams/Outlook/PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication and public interface skills.
  • Experience/training in team development, coordination, and facilitation.
  • Strong written skills, including technical documentation and report writing abilities.
  • Ability to read and understand P&ID and process flow drawings; electrical and ladder logic drawings preferred.
  • Personal availability to respond immediately to emergency situations and staffing requirements.
  • Skill and commitment to coach and develop employees.
  • Ability and commitment to continue to develop personal skills and technical knowledge.
  • Ability to facilitate and coordinate projects; skill in organizing and managing time effectively to meet deadlines and balance priorities.
  • Experience maintaining a preventative maintenance schedule in plant operations.
  • Ability to physically access construction and other work site locations as required.
  • Demonstrated skill and ability in delegating and coordinating employee activities consistent with Company strategy to balance customer satisfaction with shareholder value. 
  • Possess/maintain a valid Oregon/Washington driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
  • Subject to random drug testing.

Base salary range: $97,750.00 - $139,300.00 per year, depending on qualifications

Annual Target Incentive: Grade 22, 12% target
Targets are calculated using eligible earnings during plan year participation. Payout, if earned, is based on company and individual performance for each plan year and may range from 0% – 200% of target. Targets are subject to change in subsequent plan years. Must be employed by September 30 in order to receive any prorated payout.
